In a literal sense, the term “flutter” is defined as a group of butterflies. This year at Domremy College, the student leadership body chose this simple word as a metaphor representative of the Domremy community. The flutter encourages each of its students to courageously and confidently be their whole selves.

Everyone is like a butterfly. This year’s theme,  ‘When we spread our wings, we create a flutter,’ is personal to each and every person. It recognises individuality and uniqueness. Butterflies are all different, they each reflect light differently which then exposes all of their different colours. At Domremy this mirrors our students’ ability to adapt differently to the environments they find themselves in, and embrace their true selves and their own unique talents and gifts which they are challenged to express.

The theme encourages students to be courageous, resilient and to learn from mistakes. This strengthens their learning and inspires them to embrace change as an integral part in forming their individual identity. Starting simply by saying yes to new opportunities and trying novel and exhilarating pursuits, may lead to more challenging endeavours.

The increased number of students who have embraced initiatives by the Environment, Social Justice and Humanities Committees at Domremy this year is a testament to the challenge undertaken by the student leaders. Most recently, students attended a live ZOOM with one of NASA’s roboticists who controls the robotic arm on the Perseverance Rover. Additionally, our Year 11 students lead the College’s Growth Matters Program, with Year 10 students stepping up in preparation for their leadership roles in the year ahead.

On the back of the launch of our student theme, it is a privilege at Domremy to witness the proactive engagement of the Domremy women across all areas, be they exacting educational fields, such as robotics and space industries, or be they leadership positions which can deliver positive benefits to the community at large.
