Happy Science Week

Domremy Scientists have been hard at work in their makeshift laboratories at home during lockdown!

Year 8 has been investigating the minerals and rocks in the Earth’s crust. They have been creating erosion and weathering models from their kitchen and garden equipment!

Year 9 is studying diseases and how they spread. We created a virtual handshake model whereby each student could ‘connect/handshake’ with another using the Padlet arrows. After a couple of rounds, we discovered who the ‘infectious’ student was and determined the close and casual contacts.

Year 10 have been studying genetics and made some DNA models using lollies and other craft supplies they had at home. The girls have just finished genetics and looking at evolution theories. They used toilet paper to show the vast amount of time between evolutionary events and also tried their hand at catching ‘organisms’ to show how camouflage was an advantageous adaptation.
