Honourable Mention - Young Archie 2017

31st July 2017

We congratulate Angella, Yr 11, whose art piece, My Saviour, received an Honourable mention in this year’s Young Archie 2017.

The Young Archie, is a competition inviting young artists between the ages of 5 and 18 years to submit a portrait.

Angella, entered in the 16 - 18 year old category, received the Honourable mention for her artwork portraying her mother.

You can read about the 2017 Finalists and Honourable mentions online at https://www.artgallery.nsw.gov.au/prizes/young-archie/2017/ and about Angella’s artwork at https://www.artgallery.nsw.gov.au/prizes/young-archie/2017/220/

About her piece Angella says:

I have chosen to portray my mother as she is my main inspiration for most of everything I do. She gives me strength when no-one else does, loves me more than anyone else can and gives me courage to do what I can to the best of my abilities. I wanted to show my love to her through this drawing as she has sacrificed many things to let me keep doing the thing I love – art. She is like any other mother, but to me she is my saviour. She brightens the darkest parts of my life and gives me a reason to live.

This year there were over 2000 entries in the Young Archie competition.

Finalists from each age category are displayed online and at the Art Gallery of NSW and the honourable mentions are displayed online and at the SH Ervin Gallery.
