We are excited to announce that Hayball Architects and Domremy College's Solais Sandpit are winners in the LEA's 12th Annual Australasia Awards for Excellence in Educational Facilities. (These latest awards are in addition to the award won in December 2018 as Winner of the Renovation/Modernisation category in the NSW Association for Learning Environments (Australasia) 2018 Chapter Awards).

You can read all about the Awards here and read the jury citations for winners here.

Learning Environments Australasia (LEA) is a community of over 900 professionals sharing best practice on the design, planning, building and use of innovative learning environments (LEA website).

On Thursday 30 May 2019, Hayball took out two awards at the national level in Perth at the LEA's 12th Annual Australasia Awards for Excellence in Educational Facilities, for Domremy College's Solais Sandpit:

  • winner of the Renovation/Modernisation Under AU$2 Million category, and
  • winner of An Innovative Education Initiative category.

The Awards ceremony in Perth was attended by 450 of the world's leading practitioners in the design and use of learning spaces (LEA website).

Huge congratulations to Hayball, who was also declared the overall winner of the Awards from entries across the Asia Pacific, taking out top honour in the New Construction/Entire New Educational Facility category, for its design of South Melbourne Primary School, Victoria's first public vertical school. (Hayball also received a Commendation in that category for Braemar College Stage 1).

It is to be noted that Hayball won that category for its "successful integration of educational pedagogies, community values and architectural design philosophies" (LEA website). Both Hayball and Domremy College have worked tirelessly towards these very goals in the planning and design of its new Solais Building Development, due for completion in 2020, which will deliver state of the art teaching and learning spaces, which will enhance the student learning experience, including a new wing for Year 7 and 8, a new Library, Theatrette, tutorial rooms, incubator spaces, maker spaces and presentation spaces.
