Congratulations to our Junior Rugby 7s Team who were victorious in the inaugural Rugby 7s Grand Final last week in the Sydney Catholic Schools Competition! How good?!

This is how it all came to pass.

For the first time in the school’s history, Domremy girls played Rugby 7’s in the SCS Competition.

Junior Team: Our Junior Team played 3 fixtures, winning all 3 in the Competition. Throughout the Competition their defensive play was well organised and players committed. Ava, Veronika, and Andrea tackled superbly. In attacking play, we scored numerous tries with excellent passing from Captain Alyssa, providing the platform on many occasions. Annalise scored several tries with the help of her elusive body swerves and side steps. Una also ran strongly and all girls contributed positively, creating a great team spirit.

On Thursday 15 September, the team played in the Semi Final vs Holy Spirit and won convincingly 33:5. Try scorers in this game were Andrea and Jasmine with one try each, and two tries by Veronika.

Making it through to the Grand Final also contested on this day against the team played against our rival, Marist Sisters Woolwich. They emerged victorious with a score of 17:5; two tries from Veronika, and another by Andrea. Special mention should be given to Ava who played magnificently in both defense and attack. All girls played courageously for the team on this wonderful occasion, especially at the end when the heavens opened and the downpour started, and should be congratulated.

Intermediate Team: Our Intermediate Team played 2 matches in the Competition. The girls had one convincing win but lost the other in a very tight game against worthy opponents during the course of the Competition. Sadly, we were missing the talent of Christina in that match and hoped she would be able to play the semis. The hardworking and unselfish play of Aoife helped the team tremendously. Ferocious tackling by Mariana and Danica saved us several times. The vision and accurate passing from Ava, set up tries and many promising attacks. The strength and speed of Charlotte was our most potent attacking weapon along with Mariana and Alannah.

The team also made it into the Semi Final on Thursday and played Holy Spirit. In what was a very tight contest our girls lost by two tries to one.

Well done to all the girls. They are all to be congratulated for trialling and committing themselves to something new! Go Girls!
